Aquiala Walden, Social Media Manager

Aquiala A. Walden is a dedicated music educator, choral director, and advocate for culturally responsive teaching. A Bronx native, she was first introduced to music through the church, where she developed a strong foundation in ministry and vocal performance. After relocating to Newburgh, NY, her passion for music education took root and continued to flourish.

Aquiala holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Ithaca College and a Master’s in Secondary Education from Howard University. A classically trained soprano, she began her teaching career at a private school in New York City before joining District of Columbia Public Schools. She now teaches music theory and concert choir, and directs multiple vocal ensembles at the historic Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Washington, DC, where her instruction centers on solfège, sightreading, and culturally inclusive repertoire.

She also serves as artistic director of the Washington Youth Choir, mentoring young vocalists from across DC in vocal artistry, discipline, and performance. Beyond the classroom, Aquiala remains active in music ministry and shares instructional content on social media to support fellow educators and inspire the next generation of musicians.

“Being a music educator is a path that chose me. My passion lies in using music to cultivate growth, cultural awareness, and emotional intelligence in every student.”
